Camp Lejeune Water Contamination Lawsuit Update June 2022

On June 16, 2022, The Camp Lejeune Justice Act Officially Passed In Congress By A Vote Of 84 To 14. The Bill Is Now Awaiting President Biden’s Signature To Be Officially Put Into Law.

Part of the Honoring PACT (Promise to Address Comprehensive Toxics) Act, this bill will grant those who were exposed to contaminated water at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina the ability to file suit against the U.S. Government for their injuries.

Poised to function much like a mass tort multidistrict litigation, cases for Camp Lejeune Water Contamination will be centralized in the U.S. District Court: Eastern District of North Carolina. The bill covers not only veterans, but also family members, non-military staff, and any other person who may have been at Camp Lejeune for 30 days or more between 1953 and 1987.

The passing of the Camp Lejeune Justice Act has been a long time coming - veterans and advocates have been attempting to nail down legislation to compensate victims for decades, and this new bill aims to do just that.

Previous attempts have included the Janey Ensminger Act that was introduced in 2011. The act was named for the 9-year-old daughter of a Marine who died of cancer alleged to be linked to water contamination at the military base.

Potentially thousands more people suffered similar health impacts as Janey Ensminger, and the Camp Lejeune Justice Act will hopefully see that all affected are adequately compensated for the harm done.

If you or a loved one were at Camp Lejeune for at least 30 days between 1953 and 1987, you may be eligible to file a claim.
