Camp Lejeune Water Contamination Lawsuit Update May 2022

Camp Lejeune Water Contamination Lawsuit Update May 2022

Camp Lejeune Water Contamination Lawsuit Update May 2022

For over three decades from 1953 to 1987, Marine Corps members, their families, non-military staff, and others were exposed to contaminated water at Camp Lejeune Marine Corps Base in North Carolina.

New legislation has been introduced that would give those exposed to toxic drinking water a path to file lawsuits against the U.S. Government and other at fault parties for their injuries.

Leadership on the Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee struck a bipartisan agreement on the Honoring our PACT Act, which aims to deliver benefits to veterans exposed to toxic chemicals.

Part of the Honor Our PACT Act, which has already passed in the House of Representatives, the Camp Lejeune Justice Act will allow those exposed to contaminated drinking water at the Marine Corps Base to file suit and recover compensation for their injuries.

Awaiting Senate approval and a signature from the President, the Camp Lejeune Justice Act will be a hallmark victory for the hundreds of thousands of people exposed to toxic water at the Marine Corps Base.

Various pieces of legislation have attempted to right the wrongs in the situation, but none have amounted to significant benefits for the veterans exposed.

The Camp Lejeune Justice Act would be the most comprehensive and victim-focused piece of legislation yet.
