Philips CPAP Lawsuit Update May 2022

Philips CPAP Lawsuit Update May 2022

Multiple Philips CPAP and BiPAP machines have been recalled due to potential health risks, including cancer.

Polyester-based foam inside machines can deteriorate, and particles can then travel through the machine tubes and into the lungs. Chemicals emitted by new, freshly opened machines can also combine with other chemicals in a process called off-gassing, and create harmful toxins. These toxins may lead to lung cancer among other harmful side effects.

May 2022 Update: Recently, the US Department of Justice issued a subpoena to Philips regarding the CPAP recall, signaling that the government is seriously investigating the details of the recall.

Lawyers are also investigating whether even more medical conditions can be caused by the CPAP machine, such as skin cancer. There are over 250 cases consolidated in multidistrict litigation (MDL 3014), and more are expected to be added.

While CPAP machines and other ventilator devices are crucial to some patients’ well-being, the risks associated with these Philips machines are significant. Contact your doctor if you are experiencing any side effects related to faulty Philips CPAP or BiPAP machines.
