Crash happened in Feb. 2024 and killed a mother and, daughter

DOWNTOWN ST. LOUIS, MO – A man named Monte Henderson was sentenced to 21 years in prison on Friday, Oct. 10, in connection with a deadly crash that killed a mother and her daughter.

KSDK said that prior to the judge’s sentence, this summer, Henderson pleaded guilty to two counts of armed criminal action and two counts of first-degree involuntary manslaughter and has been in jail since.

The collision occurred in February of 2024 at the intersection of North 18th Street and Olive Street. Prosecutors said that on the day of the crash, Henderson drove while under the influence and was on his way to pick up his mother and sister from a concert in downtown St. Louis.

Police said that Henderson was driving at a high rate of speed and ran a red light when he crashed his Jeep into another vehicle, occupied by Laticha Bracero and Alyssa Cordova, the mother and daughter, who were leaving that same concert downtown outside Enterprise Center.

The force of the crash led Bracero and Cordova to succumb to their injuries.

An expert witness later confirmed Henderson was driving 74 mph when he collided with Bracero and Cordova.

Henderson’s attorney asked for eight years in prison, prosecutors requested a 25-year prison sentence, while Alice Bracero, family to the victims, pleaded for the maximum sentence — 50 years.

Henderson expressed remorse for his actions, and the judge ultimately decided on the 21-year prison sentence.
