Boy, 9, Hospitalized Following Hit-and-Run Crash in Florissant

FLORISANT, MO – A 9-year-old boy was sent to the hospital following a hit-and-run crash that happened in Florissant on Sunday, First Alert 4 said.

The hit-and-run crash occurred at the intersection of Shackelford and Central Parkway. Preliminary details show that the 9-year-old boy and his brother were crossing the street ahead of their parents when the suspect ran over the 9-year-old boy riding his scooter.

The boy’s mother, Betty Davis, told St. Louis County police that the suspect was traveling at a high rate of speed and pursuing a turn when they crashed into her 9-year-old son.

The suspect did not render aid to the young scooter rider and immediately fled the scene in their vehicle. The boy’s father, Kerry Davis, ran after the suspect on foot, but ultimately stopped after losing sight of it.

The 9-year-old boy was left with two fractured pelvic bones and a fractured jaw, while his brother escaped injuries.

Good Samaritans saw what unfolded and immediately sought aid from fire crews at the nearby hospital.

An ambulance was dispatched to the scene and took the 9-year-old boy to an area hospital for treatment. He has since been released from the hospital. His recovery is expected to last 6-8 weeks, but he is expected to return to school on Tuesday, Jan. 20. During this period of healing, he is using a wheelchair and walker to get from point A to point B and is taking a hiatus from football.

Police are actively working to track down the hit-and-run driver and are continuing with the investigation.
