One car crashes into I-70 guardrail after colliding with 2 other vehicles

ST. LOUIS, MO – A male driver was hurt in a chain-reaction crash that happened west of the St. Louis International Airport on Sunday.

Missouri State Highway Patrol said the crash occurred around 6:30 p.m.

The incident began when a 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche car became disabled. A 28-year-old woman driving a 2023 Tesla Model 3 saw what unfolded and swerved to the left to try to avoid hitting the Chevrolet Avalanche. However, a crash proved to be inevitable as she rear-ended the Chevrolet.

Moments later, a 32-year-old man, driving a 2003 Honda Pilot, crashed into the back of the Chevrolet Avalanche, despite having slowed down. The Chevrolet Avalanche driver, a 60-year-old man from St. Ann, then crashed into a guardrail.

The 32-year-old man sustained minor injuries and was transported to SSM Health DePaul Hospital by Pattonville Ambulance.

The 60-year-old man and the 28-year-old woman from Wentzville were uninjured. All drivers wore seatbelts and were the sole occupants of their vehicles.

No citations were reported.
