Application information:
Scholarship applicants (from Illinois and Missouri only) must submit a video response to our topic prompt.
- The video response must not utilize AI (those utilizing AI will be disqualified).
Contestants must provide PDF proof of fall 2026 enrollment to an accredited university, trade school, or junior college.
- The document must include the student and university names.
- The document must be dated.
Each student is limited to one submission.
Important Dates:
- Submissions (Open): April 1st, 2026
- Submissions (Close): May 31st, 2026
- Winner Announced: July 2026
Awards:
- 1st Place Winner: $2,000.00
- Runner-up: $1,000.00
Response Topics:
- How do we as a society successfully address the issue of distracted driving with adults?
- How do we successfully create a generation of safe and informed drivers? How do we remedy those adults already driving distracted?
- How has distracted driving personally affected you?
- What new state and federal level laws and regulations could combat the issue of distracted driving? How would we as a society facilitate those changes?
Eligibility:
The scholarship is available to all students currently enrolled in an undergraduate program, and those who will be freshmen in the fall of 2026.
The scholarship will be awarded with a check made out to the winning applicant and their accredited university, trade school, or junior college.
The check will be mailed directly to the school.
Those employed by TorHoerman Law, their immediate families, and those living within their households, are not eligible to participate.
This video must not utilize AI.
Applicants utilizing AI will be disqualified.
Video Response Guide:
- Videos should be approximately 3-5 minutes long in response to the “essay topic”.
- Use original materials only. Do not use any copyrighted materials in your video unless you have permission to do so.
- Videos should be uploaded to YouTube. After they are uploaded, copy the video link into the submission form.
- Videos should be named THL “Let’s End Distracted Driving” Scholarship Contest 2026 (name) submission.”
- Include citations for any referenced material in the YouTube video description.
Judging Criteria:
Video responses will be judged by a panel of TorHoerman Law employees.
Response scores will be based on the following criteria:
- 50% on creativity & originality
- 30% accurate information & citations
- 10% following directions
- 10% other factors

The winner of the TorHoerman Law Scholarship Foundation Essay Contest will be asked to provide a headshot for promotional purposes.
The winner’s name, headshot and a short bio will be shared on the TorHoermanLaw.com blog page, as well as across all TorHoerman Law social media platforms.
The runner up’s name, headshot and a short bio will be shared on the TorHoermanLaw.com blog page, as well as across all TorHoerman Law social media platforms.
The winning video and runner up video will be shared on the TorHoerman Law website and all social platforms.
