Police apprehended man after he fled the scene

ST. LOUIS, MO – Authorities have brought charges against the man they say caused a crash that killed a recently crowned prom queen and two other women on Friday, First Alert 4 reports.

This story updates our reporting from yesterday.

Prosecutors allege that Devin Daugherty, 20, is the man who was driving the 2013 Cadillac SRX that set off a chain-reaction crash on Lewis & Clark Boulevard that night which left three women dead. They have charged him with three counts of leaving the scene of an accident that resulted in death and one count of driving while revoked or suspended. He is currently in the St. Louis County Jail on a cash-only $250,000 bond.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s investigation, the SRX sideswiped a Lexus RX350 in the northbound lanes of the highway at about 8:30 p.m. on May 1. The impact pushed the Lexus into the southbound lanes, where it was T-boned by a Toyota Highlander, causing it to roll over.

The SRX ran off the roadway and into some trees. Authorities say that Daugherty fled the scene on foot.

All three women in the other two vehicles died as a result of the crash. One of victims was Jordyn “Lunar” Williams, an 18-year-old senior at Ritenour High School who had been named prom queen the previous week.

Investigators found registration documents in the SRX that led them to Daughtery’s residence. Police contacted the home and were told by Daughtery’s mother that she had not been driving the vehicle at the time and that her son was not home. She contacted them again on Monday to let them know he had returned, at which point police questioned Daughtery, who confessed to have been driving the vehicle.
