The global manufacturer sells its list in several of the largest global markets.

Despite the many reported safety issues, Amazon has only ever issued two official recalls of Amazon Basics products.

Amazon Basics electronics lawsuits have begun being filed around the country.

The number of civil claims against Amazon continues to increase as more consumers become aware of defective prdoucts in their home.

Customers Raise Concern

There have been at least 1,500 customer reviews since 2016 for more than 70 items that described “products exploding, catching on fire, smoking, melting, causing electrical malfunctions or otherwise posing risks.”

Several of the complaints listed on the website are accompanied by photos of the defective products.

Around thirty items with three or more troubling reviews remain on the market on Amazon’s website.

Amazon Basics Electronics Fire Hazard

Consumers have rights.

For instance, they have a right to purchase products that have passed safety inspections and not have to worry about them becoming an injury hazard to themselves or others.

Below, you will find a compilation of Amazon Basics electronic products that passed Amazon’s safety standards but have been deemed “dangerous” by the verified customers who bought them.

Which Products are Dangerous?

A growing number of Amazon Basics products have become bestsellers since their creation and may have high-quality customer ratings.

The negative reviews represent a small fraction of the total purchases of Amazon Basics products, but still serious consequences that can lead to critical injuries.

User error can also play a role and attribute to the danger presented by the electronics.

Amazon Basics Electronics Injuries & Damages

Here is a list of some Amazon Basics products that have been reported to be dangerous:

Surge Protectors

Report of a surge protector turning into a “blowtorch” and shooting flames out of the device.

Report of Microwave suddenly catching fire.

USB Cords

Report of USB cord bursting into flames.

Phone Chargers

Report of burning peoples’ hands and legs.

Paper Shredders

Report of a paper shredder “blowing up into a fireball.”

Reports of batteries exploding and spraying chemicals into someone’s face.

Other Electronics

Several other electronic items have received complaints of overheating, burning, and melting.

Amazon’s Response

The retailers said “safety is a top priority” and that it takes several steps to ensure all Amazon Basics products are safe, such as selecting experienced manufacturers, monitoring customer feedback, and testing items to ensure they pass safety and compliance standards.

Furthermore, it says Amazon Basics offers thousands of products that combined have more than 1 million reviews, and the concerns are thoroughly investigated, according to CNN Business.

Amazon says that customers will be notified if a critical safety issue is identified.

However, the corporation said it notified customers about an Amazon Basics product less than five times in total.

Federal Safety Regulators Investigating

Businesses legally must report “potentially hazardous” items to the federal Consumer Product Safety Commission(CPSC) so the agency can investigate a potential recall.

However, The CPSC has only received at least ten reports over eight years that mention an Amazon Basics product with concerns similar to those in the reviews.

The complaints cover at least eight different products spanning all the way back to 2012.

Amazon Basics Electronics Recall

Amazon issued a public recall of as many as 2,600,000 Amazon Basics power banks in the US due to reports of fires and burns in March 2018.

It also recalled a space heater after approximately twenty-five complaints.

In addition, the company issued a recall for a space heater after receiving complaints of overheating and sparking, according to the US Consumer Product Safety Commission.

Also, Amazon has pulled the Amazon Basics USB cords and surge protectors off the market due to safety concerns.

Potential injuries include, but are not limited to:

Consumer reports of chargers burning through their skin.

Due to the nature of electronics, users are inherently at risk of electrocutions.

If a loved one has suffered a tragic accident from a defective product, you may be eligible to file a wrongful death lawsuit.

Property Damage

More than one hundred reports of property damage to homes or belongings included charred walls and fried cell phones.

Product Liability Lawsuit

This is not the first time that Amazon has come under scrutiny regarding its sales of defective products.

The company has faced more than 60 product liability lawsuits in the past decade.

Multiple court rulings have determined that the retailer can be held liable for defective items sold in its third-party marketplace.

Do I Qualify?

  • Do you own a defective product marketed under the Amazon Basics label?
  • Did you purchase the product from Amazon’s official website?
  • Have you or a loved one suffered any damage or personal injury due to the defective product?

If you answered yes to the previous questions, you may be entitled to financial compensation through an Amazon Basics electronics lawsuit.

The best way to determine if your product is defective is to physically test it and take it apart.

However, many customers said they immediately threw out.
