Rockford Art Museum
The mission of the Rockford Art Museum is to foster creativity and build community through visual arts. Its goals have always included attracting memberships to acquire and sustain a permanent collection within a permanent gallery space of its own, for the educational and cultural expansion of its community. The museum is comprised of more than 2,000 pieces of art. The RAM Permanent Collection consists of modern and contemporary American art from the 19th and 20th centuries through today.
Klehm Arboretum & Botanic Garden
The Klehm Arboretum has an assortment of plant life unlike any other natural area in the United States. The site includes many unique species from throughout the U.S. that normally do not thrive in this region, plus the Midwest’s most vigorous evergreen collection.
Forest Preserves of Winnebago County
The Forest Preserves of Winnebago County are home to endless possibilities for visitors. The area includes hundreds of hiking trails, four rivers, four campgrounds, and three golf courses all spread throughout the 10,000-acre property. The Forest Preserve District is dedicated to protecting, conserving, enhancing, and promoting Winnebago County’s natural heritage for the environmental, educational, and recreational benefit of present and future generations.
There are numerous different ways for residents to enjoy the river. Obviously, boating and kayaking are the most common activities along the river. However, you can find several other opportunities for recreation. Visitors can relax at Joe Marino Park, get a bite to eat at the riverside Owly Oop Sports Pub, or have a drink at Prairie Street Brewing Company that overlooks the water.
