NEAR EDWARDSVILLE, IL – A van driver was killed in a fiery van crash that took place on Interstate 55 near Edwardsville on Wednesday, FirstAlert4 said.
The incident unfolded around 6 p.m. near milepost 28. Preliminary details show a driver of a semi-truck was coming from the southbound Homestead Rest Area when it was struck by a business van.
The impact caused the van to catch on fire, ultimately claiming the life of the van driver.
The truck driver was uninjured.
Illinois State Police said officials closed the southbound lanes for several hours before reopening all lanes around 10:25 a.m.
