UNION, MO – One man was killed, and another was injured in a collision involving a semi-truck that happened outside Union on Friday.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the crash happened before 7:45 a.m. at the intersection of Missouri 8 and Whippet Road. MSHP said the incident unfolded when a vehicle was turning from Whippet Road onto Missouri 8 East and went into the path of a 2020 Freightliner Coronado 122 semi-truck.
A 49-year-old man from Irondale, operating a semi-truck, was driving east on the highway and swerved left into the westbound lane to try to avoid a crash with the aforementioned vehicle.
A 50-year-old man from Farmington, driving a 2019 Ford F-150 pickup truck in the westbound lane, tried to avoid hitting the semi-truck by going into the shoulder. However, the semi-truck and pickup truck ended up crashing.
Subsequently, the Farmington man succumbed to his injuries, while the Irondale man suffered moderate injuries.
Washington County Ambulance District rushed the Irondale man to Mercy Hospital South for treatment.
MSHP did not say whether they cited the other driver who initially pulled into the path of the semi-truck.
