HAMEL, IL – Two lives were claimed in a head-on collision in Hamel on Sunday, FirstAlert4 said.
Illinois State Police said the incident happened before 5:45 p.m. on Illinois Route 140 west of Hoxey Drive. Police said a pickup truck driver was traveling east when they veered into the westbound lane and crashed head-on into a westbound sedan.
The impact of the crash led the sedan driver and passenger to succumb to their injuries, while the pickup truck driver survived.
EMS took the surviving truck driver to the hospital for unspecified injuries.
Crews shut down Illinois Route 140 for several hours to accommodate the clean-up process and investigation.
Officials reopened all lanes after 11:45 p.m.
Police have not disclosed the identities of those involved in the crash.
