ST. LOUIS, MO – Two men and one woman were injured in a double semi-truck crash that happened in St. Louis on Friday.
The North County Fire & Rescue Battalion Chief told FirstAlert4 that the crash happened before 2:30 a.m. near Lilac Avenue. The incident unfolded when a 29-year-old man, operating a tractor-trailer, collided with an animal.
The 29-year-old man pulled his truck onto the shoulder to inspect the sustained damage. Moments later, another tractor-trailer crashed into the 29-year-old man’s truck.
The 29-year-old man’s truck jackknifed and trapped the 29-year-old man underneath, leaving him with critical injuries.
The impact of the crash also left the second truck driver, a 48-year-old man trapped. He and his female passenger suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
Fire crews were able to free both male drivers. Medical helicopter personnel transported the critically injured truck driver, and EMS transported the 48-year-old man and his female passenger to a hospital.
Traffic delays lingered as a result of the crash, which lasted for a couple of hours until crews were able to clear the scene.
It’s not immediately clear whether citations were issued.
